Our underwater surveys include daily observations of marine species (visibility permitting) and hourly water temperatures.
The survey results are available in the form of charts, data tables, resource links and download-able materials.
A brief description of the two main surveys is given below; for a more detailed description of the methodology and other related information please visit the links on the right.
Water temperatures at the Busselton Jetty
The temperature of the sea under the Underwater Observatory has been recorded since February 2001, and has shown the strong seasonal temperature pattern in southern Geographe Bay. Small self-recording temperature recorders measure the temperature every hour to an accuracy of about 0.2°C as part of an ongoing programme to monitor environmental conditions in the area around the Busselton Jetty.
The average summer temperatures are about 21.6°C in February and March, dropping to 15°C in July -- an annual range of 6.6°C. The highest temperature recorded so far has been 24.61°C in March 2006 and the lowest a very chilly 12.57°C in July 2005.
