Busselton-Dunsborough Mail

WANT to be a Busselton Jetty host?
Well here is your chance.
For only $1 per annum you will get the chance to show people around the jetty. Mind you it needs to be with a smile.
Busselton Jetty Environment and Conservation Association (BJECA) have come up with a unique way to involve the community with the new jetty and also provide people with assistance when they visit it.
Those interested will need to be able to volunteer about two days a month, not only greeting visitors but offering them advice on jetty facilities, such as the train, Interpretive Centre and Underwater Observatory, but also the history of the jetty and other local spots.
They will also need to be able to offer knowledge about fishing history, shire bylaws etc and assist jetty staff when required.
But you will get some help. If your application is successful you will be invited to take part in a half day induction course.
If it’s up your alley then Doreen Bailie is the person to contact. She’s the convener of the BJECA sub-committee. But you need to be a member of BJECA, a wholly not-for-profit group, and that’s where the dollar comes in.
BJECA president Trevor Fitzgerald said they wanted volunteers to start almost immediately and they would be provided with a distinctive uniform.
Doreen believes it is a fantastic idea.
"The main objective of volunteers is to be friendly and helpful and non confrontating – we are not a policing body,” she said.
