Part Closure of the Busselton Jetty

A structural stability report was passed to Busselton Shire Council on Wednesday 1st April and it was then deemed by Council that the Jetty should be closed from the 200m mark due to safety concerns.  The Jetty was closed off from the 200m mark after the first fishing platform on Thursday morning until further notice.

Restoration is due to commence in May to restore the Jetty back to 'as new' condition.  The project is estimated to take 18 months to complete, however access to the Underwater Observatory should be available by February 2010, with the possibility of the iconic Jetty Train to coincide with this.

Visitors are encouraged to come and watch the restoration process as it unfolds and it is hopeful that certain areas will be accessible further along the Jetty during the coming months.  The first 200m and the platform are available for walking, swimming, snorkelling and fishing as usual as well as our state-of-the-art Interpretive Centre.  The Centre is home to our unique marine giftshop with products sourced globally, our Heritage Museum and a section dedicated to the Restoration Plans and Progress as it happens.
